Summer Day Camp Employment Students in the Brooklin and Whitby area are encouraged to apply for employment at the Summer Day Camp. Each year, the camp employs 10 counsellors and one senior staff member. The Optimist Club has applied to Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) 2011 through Service Canada and Ontario Government's Summer Job Service (SJS) through Durham College to assist in funding jobs and allowing us to offer better than average wages. You must be between the ages of 15-28 and returning to school in the fall to qualify for subsidization. The program is run at the rear of Luther Vipond Arena, 53 Wincherster Road East, Brooklin, Ontario. Durham Region Transit and GO Transit provide public transportation. Camp Counsellor You will report directly to the Program Director as you work for the 9 week camp, Monday to Friday 9:00-4:30. Duties require the supervision and management of a group of children aged from 6 to 12. Age groups are set each week and it is the responsibility of the counsellor to aid the children in the enjoyment of their camp experience by exposing them to program that interests them. After hours care is offered daily from 7:30am and until 6:00pm offering counsellors the opportunity to earn additional income. On a weekly basis, Counsellors will escort their campers on Wednesday outings to various venues, linked to the weekly theme. Candidates will be required to show proof of current First Aid qualification (and will be subjected to a background check if 18 years and older.) It is expected that applicants will be returning to full time education in the fall of 2011. (Employment period 9 weeks plus one day orientation.) Program Director As Program Director, you will have several years experience in a day camp or residential camp. You will be prepared to demonstrate your ability to manage a 9 week program for approximately 100 children per week, and 10 high school/college/university students. You will be responsible for managing parental enquiries and handling difficult and emergency situations. Upon completion of the camp you will be responsible for preparing a summary of the activities and evaluation of the camp staff. The candidate will be subjected to a background check and will be required to show proof of current First Aid qualification. Priority will be given to candidates returning to full time education in the fall of 2011. (Employment period 12 weeks.) C.I.T. Program Director As CIT Program Director, you will have several years experience in a day camp or residential camp. You will be prepared to evaluate and update the training manual and deliver two 3-week training session during the summer camp. Upon completion of the camp you will be responsible for preparing a summary of the activities and evaluation of the camp staff. (Employment period 7 weeks.)
